Osteopathic medicine is a complete medical discipline emphasizing the interrelationship of all body systems to each other and to the environment. We are licensed to practice all phases of medicine and surgery in all 50 states. As osteopathic physicians, we look at the whole person, not just where it hurts. We understand and recognize the tremendous and powerful, inherent capacity of the body to heal and to maintain itself in a state of wellness.

In addition to utilizing "conventional" medical and surgical procedures, we are distinguished by an extremely special ability: the diagnosis by manual methods of malfunctions in the physical state of the neuro-musculo-skeletal system, and, when indicated, correction by osteopathic manipulation. This includes high-velocity, low amplitude (so-called "adjustments"), myofascial release, soft tissue mobilization, cranio-sacral, counter-strain, etc.

Pain is an abstract concept until you feel it, until it happens to you. Then, suddenly, it is no longer an abstraction, rather, pain determines your life, and you just want it go away as quickly and completely as possible. And, you want it never to return.

This is what we do at the Center for Sports and Osteopathic Medicine: Our job is the diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system and the relief of the pain and disability accompanying those conditions. We are particularly proficient in injuries related to fitness and strength training: shoulders, knees, ankles and feet. Low back and neck pain (no matter what the source) is our special forte. We develop individualized programs for rehabilitation and prevention of disability resulting from injuries at all of these sites.

Our staff includes physical therapists with extensive training and experience in orthopedic, sports and dance medicine; exercise therapists, certified movement analysts, licensed medical massage therapists. Acupuncture and trigger point injections are included in our program, where indicated. We fabricate orthoses for correction of faulty foot mechanics, often the source of other musculoskeletal injuries: feet, ankles, knees and low back. We have state-of-the-art X-ray equipment to be used to assist in diagnosis whenever needed.
